Florida Summer Flowers

It’s summertime in Florida which means we have summertime heat. Your plants that may have thrived in warm weather might not thrive in this scorching sun. That means that it’s time to upgrade your flowers for summer, and lucky for you I have a few suggestions…

 

Pentas: Blooms in clusters of white, lavender, red and more. These plants are extremely popular among the butterfly and hummingbird communities. These plants do very well in full sun or in part shade, and will thrive in both container gardens as well as in the ground.

Blue My Mind: This gorgeous, low-growing plant with blue blooms look amazing in any garden setting. These Florida perennials fo well in Florida gardens and are drought tolerant and very low maintenance. With the combination of fertilizer and well-drained soil, you will have the most vivid blue blooms ever.

Purslane: Drought tolerant, heat loving ground cover with colorful blooms. These plants are often used in hanging baskets and container gardens as the spiller. Plant in full sun and keep the soil on the dry side to get the most out of this plant.

Heather: Also known as Cuphea, this plant is decorated with small blooms in colors of lavender, white, and pink. This low-laying plant is fairly easy to care for, and will thrive in full sun or part shade. An added bonus is that butterflies and bees love this plants flowers!

Salvia: These fragrant flowers are favored by butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. They are low maintenance and easy to grow in container gardens as well as in the ground. Salvia will thrive in full sun and are drought tolerant plants as well.
